It is getting to be that time fellow miniature game + hobby consumers. (Don’t eat your models btw)
This article is a springboard off of the previous article about how to go to plan to go to events. This will mostly be considering how to pick your events and some practical experience and knowledge from yours truly, Dr. D, on how he handles the pre-event panic. So it might help to go read that other article first if you are wondering what the heck I am talking about.
Adepticon is right around the corner and to say I am excited is an actual understatement. Last year I did the very successful, thank you by the way, article on my The Worthy Entry I managed to get TWO whole articles out of it so make sure you check out Part 2. That article was made while under the stress of Adepticon being a few weeks away and my last minute attempt to join the painting contest. At the time of THIS writing Adepticon 2024 is about 3 months away and I have a whole heap of things that need to get done. I hope writing this article will keep me accountable to all of the things I want to do. This means that all of the people reading this article need to be my acountabillibuddies.

I should trademark that word. It is very much a Dylan-esque type of word. A Dylrevative if you will……..I should probably trademark that word too.
Anyway, I discovered a really cool website called Pile Of Potential a few months ago in my favorite Infinity discord, and I have been really obsessed with it. I have used similar list app things in the past, but they were always subject to updating issues since it would require you to redownload the app and you would lose all of your progress. I really enjoy the data entry thing, but putting in the same information more than once was kinda buttz. This website is incredible since you can adjust it to any game that you might be playing, and it doesn’t need to update since it is honestly just a fancy excel spreadsheet with a percentage on the top of the page.
The older I get, the more I find joy in the very simple things.
Now I can hear you ask me Taylor. Why is this gushing about a neat website important to this article you are forcing me at gunpoint to read. Well, I will tell you Taylor.

A wise Bostonian homeless man once told me that the first part of conquering your problems is admitting that you have a problem in the first place. This website is a marvelously good toy for putting your entire pile of model-related crap in one place so that you can name the demons that sit in the pile. I have been in the hobby for a VERY long time and I know that I am not even the worst when it comes to buying entire projects and never actually working on them. I am well aware that I am an exception to the rule since I actually paint almost every single day. If naming the demons helps me keep ME contained then I know at least one person reading this article can have a real come-to-Jesus type moment.
I just hope that he is powerful enough to help you.
The point of this is that it forces me to see where I should be turning my energy. Why buy more stuff to fill the void that is my emotional square hole when I have an entire house filled with stuff that I could actually be working on. Many of these things I will need for the approaching Adepticon. This means that if I know what I already have, it is easy to make sure I get the things done that need to be done and I can neatly mark them off of my fancy website.
I am planning on going to Infinity, Bushido, and MCP events at Adepticon. This means that those lists should slowly get filled in with green while all of the other categories should NOT move, unless they are getting smaller, until at least after Adepticon 2024.

Those are the rules I have put upon myself. This means that I can not get distracted with non-Adepticon related projects while the calm before the storm is here. Here is a more specific list of the things I would LIKE to do at Adepticon if I can manage to get tickets for all of the events. Here is a friendly reminder that TICKETS GO LIVE ON JANUARY 7TH.
- MCP Team Event with My Boi
- Mainline Infinity 2-day Satellite Event
- AMG’s The Worth Painting Contest
- Bothering PCN People While They Stream
- Wander around the Vendor Hall
- Bushido Events as a Back Up
- Helping Jesse from Fury’s Finest Have Fully Painted Shatterpoint

I did my best to be selective with my events since trying to do too many things at an event is a sure-fire way to make sure you are going to have a bad time. It also pays to have a backup event or two just in case you are not able to get an event ticket. Otherwise you have to get to bullying people and that can get expensive. Thankfully, even if everything goes terribly wrong, I am sure I can pivot and figure out a plan of attack since Adepticon is filled to the BRIM with amazing things to do.
So, assuming everything goes to plan, lets start planning the attack on the list.
Infinity Plans
Some big news here. We are talking about internet-breaking levels of new information here! 2024 is going to be the year of USAriadna for Infinity in Dr. D land. I have not announced it yet since the first episode of the year has not come out yet for Arachne, but I got big plans. I am going to play USAriadna at all of my events for 2024 since I love to watch my internet fancy points just continue to plummet to the bottom. This means that at Everwinter 2024 I will be running around in the low tech Infinity world and slinging mud and big bullets at my opponents. This has a very specific snag however.

Adepticon has a it gotta be painted to be on a table rule that is supposed to extend to all events. I have been to a bunch of events for a bunch of games, and I have never seen an Infinity event enforce painting requirements. I am not sure where the line is going to be drawn on this at Adepticon, but it does mean that I might not have enough USAriadna painted before the event. This means that I might have to jump back to one of my other loves. This means that I might have to break my rule temporarily, and I do not want to be @ed at if they see me playing O12 or Bakunin! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Marvel Crisis Protocol
Last year I attended the MCP team event with my boi, and I have to say we had a blast. Even though we were forced to play against Brotherhood of Mutants over and over again. We went back and forth on doing the Shatterpoint event, but decided to go back to the MCP love since it has some better options for personal goofiness. This year, we are planning a Criminal Syndicate/Spider-Foes idea, but we currently have a few boxes of Spider-Foes that do not have any release dates. I suspect these models will not release in time for Adepticon. This means we are either perfectly fine as far as painted models, or I potentially have two boxes of stuff that I need to slam out REAL fast.
If the new boxes don’t come out I might only have to paint 1-2 models for this entire part of the con to get a checkmark. So either we get some sick new models or I have everything under control. That is cash money either way.

The Worthy
My Worthy project has not exited theoretical territory yet. I am still attempting to locate the items needed to do the idea I have in my head. I am thinking of doing a lateral ninja fight of Daredevil and Elektra fighting against The Hand because that sounds awesome. I always need another excuse to paint another hornhead and electric nachos. Thankfully, I think the idea is going to be simple to implement, but the amount of painting required is going to be substantial.
I will keep everyone posted as I go for this, but I will most likely not show the finished project until after Adepticon itself. So no peeking Taylor.

Bushido
Thankfully, my backup game, Bushido, is actually fully painted. This means that no matter what I got something that I can fall back on. Always have to enjoy that peace of mind.

Helping Jesse
The last thing I need to consider is my vow to assist Jesse have painted Shatterpoint models for his podcast Hello There! Jesse and I are pretty close. You could say that Arachne wouldn’t exist without his input. One of the advantages of being friends with Dr. D is that you sometimes get Dr. D paintjobs while I complain loudly. Let’s just say that Jesse gets it more than most others. He has heard me complain about a WHOLE lot of stuff.
Jesse needs a wide variety of models due to the different formats of the game he is interested in joining, so I need to make sure I stay on top of it. I have already painted a considerable amount of models for his Shatterpoint collection, but he has fancy internet points that need to be collected and protected for his legend.

This means that I need to paint the things he KNOWS he is going to want to use, and make sure the paint desk is open for when the AMG wave right before Adepticon gets to my house. My painting station will be covered in little Ewok fuzz.

So that is where we stand in the pre-Adepticon 2024 world. Does it mean that every single time I close my eyes I can see all of the deadlines quickly approaching me to attempt to mug me?
Yea, it sure does. (That is an anxiety joke, Taylor)
Thankfully, I have backups in case something goes wrong. I have my backup Infinity armies and I can always just slap just enough paint on a model for it be considered painted for events. It is an option, but I for sure do not want to do it that way.
I will continue to post my progress as it goes and I hope you guys join me for the ride. Then we can all share an ice cream at Adepticon. Of course you can always find me on EVERY episode of Arachne: An Infinity Podcast where we talk about all kinds of stuff that I hope everyone can enjoy. NOT just Infinity players. If you would like to support the network and ME specifically, please sign up to the Patreon at the Digital Nomad tier since it helps me afford the things I want to review or replace broken stuff that always loves to shows its ugly head.
Keep it popping and talk to you soon!
