Lindsay here, aka PCN Mom. Today, I am going out of my comfort zone behind the camera and brush to review a few new paint colors from Monument Hobbies. We were excited to come back from Adepticon to not one, but three boxes of ProAcryl paints to try out. These are the new signature series developed with Rogue Hobbies!, Flameon Miniatures, and Adepticon Spray Team. There were a limited number of early release sets available to purchase at Adepticon and will be full released later in April.
I will be talking about a few of the paints from the Rogue Hobbies! and Flameon Miniatures sets.

Now first things first, I am a massive fan of the products Monument Hobbies puts out. Not only are the paint pigments vibrant, but the paint is very durable. How do I know it is durable? Well, last Fourth of July, Sentinel Prime decided to fly off the top of a moving vehicle and broke. Surprisingly, almost no damage to the paint despite tumbling on pavement.
I always enjoy stopping at their booth at cons and talking with the staff. This year, I talked with their painter about some of the models and paint techniques they use, which was pretty cool. If you haven’t seen their hobby stream or their line of miniatures, click the link to check it out.

Now back to what you are here for, paint reviews!
The PCN paint crew split the boxes up when we received them , so I will be reviewing the following colors:
Rogue Hobbies- Dark Hot Pink, Bright Green, Dark Turquoise
Flameon Miniatures- Caramel Brown and Bright Pale Yellow.
I have since purchased the remaining set colors as well as the Adepticon Spray Team Signature Series.

Full disclosure, I am fairly new to miniature painting. I have only been consistently painting for two years. I started with the Weapon X Rivals box and Rhino and fell in love with terrain painting and fine details. Prior to that, I painted an army of bee themed Tyranids. What I do bring to the table is a background in the arts, specifically photography, large scale painting, and design.
I am a fan of both bold and earth colors, so this was a great mix of paints to try out. I decided to test each color on a large MCP base on black, white, and gray primer to give you a sense of how the paints cover on each.
First up are the Flameon Miniatures Signature series- Caramel Brown and Bright Pale Yellow. My initial thoughts on these two colors were they reminded me of iced coffee. After adding both colors to my wet pallet, I tested out a strip on each base shade as well as blended the two.
I have a feeling I will need to grab an extra bottle of each color as I use the Flameon series all the time. The blend of the two colors actually make a nice skin shade as seen in the photo below.
ProAcryl already has a Pale Yellow color that released in their #3 expansion set. The difference is slight, but what I would assume is the addition of more white to the base pigment gives it a brighter pop. Caramel Brown is a great addition to the line of paints. The current line of brown paint is dominated by cooler tones and have a hint of black, purple, or grey.

I tested out the Dark Hot Pink on my Lady of Anguish and really like the results. The wings are a blend of three Pro Acryl paints Dark Hot Pink, Purple and Transparent Purple.

I haven’t had a chance to pastel these shades yet, but I definitely plan to. If you want a bright pop of color, definitely pick up the Rogue Hobbies Signature Series. If you want both skin tones and a great combo to use for Non-Metallic Metals, pick up the Flameon Minatures Signature Series. You won’t be disappointed.

Make sure you head over to Monument Hobbies and use the code PROFESSIONALCASUAL if you purchase anything. It helps us, you save money so everyone wins.
Till next time!
Lindsay
