Hello out there Night City survivors.
The skies might be red, but that doesn’t mean the streets can’t be too! Dr.D coming from the combat zone starting a new campaign with the super fun Cyberpunk Combat Zone miniatures game. I will be doing a review of the game soon, but we started a campaign in my home and I figured I would create posts for it since I think people enjoy reading this kind of stuff.
Recently on Arachne, we talked about narrative gaming with my good buddy Timmy, and this game is VERY good at giving you the opportunity to dive into that type of gaming.

The way this game is played is much more fluid than a game like Warhammer or Infinity since it does not have turns. The gameplay just keeps going until one side wins the game. So I will relate some of the greatest hits.

I managed to draw a couple of objectives that I thought I could do. I had to hold out for 4 Tyger Claw gang refreshes, and I knew that was going to be very tricky. Mostly, because I am bad at games.

The Tyger Claws came running in and started waving their swords around and cutting people. The Oyabun would eventually show up and kick Max like a big jerk. Who kicks a dog?

Maximum Mike pulls rank and tells the officer gun down the Ronin Assassin at point blank range. Thankfully, Sarge was there to reassure him that it was for the best. The Tactical Response Officer would finally take down the Kyodai with his last action which left him in a position to try and tie up the sniper. After a team refresh, the tactical officer sprinted down the road at the sniper. The Tyger Claw sniper needs to be far away, and if no one is close he is getting rerolls. We can not be having that.

Onee-San sees the challenger approach and tries to pick off the tactical officer out of the combat, but manages to hit the sniper twice with her rapid firing weapon. The sting of betrayal. You just can’t trust these guys.

The Oyabun gets a deadly crit off on Sarge, but in a last ditch attempt to take this criminal down, he reacts with his red dice to get rid of her green dice. He manages to succeed and brings her to the redline.

The Wakakage removes the officer with a simple flick of the blade and fails to wound Maximum Mike with a shot afterward. The Tactical Officer puts down the Ronin Sniper that was clearly struggling with betrayal after being shot by his friend. Oyabun returns the favor by bringing down Sarge. This put the score at exactly 50%, and all the Tyger Claws needed to do was kill one more officer for the win. Only a single refresh remained for a Lawmen win.

The Onee-Sann shoots 4 times down the road at Mike in an attempt to bring the game to a close. He manages to hold the line after being red lined. This gave the ol’ Lawdogs a chance to win the game, but they would have to survive a team inspire. The Wakakage would sweep the leg however and walk over and simply killing the Criminologist.

The game was securely won by the Tyger Claws who managed to score two of their 3 objectives and get a character upgrade on the Oyabun who was a pivotal character for the entire game. It looked like it was going to be a simple Lawkeepers win, but it really spun around once the dice decided who they were going to let win.
Can Mike recover and get his officers in line to bring revenge to these crazed psychopaths, or is Night City eternally doomed to the crime-ridden portion of the city called the combat zone?
