Hello fellow nerdy readers and people who let other people read to them in some kind of strange symbiotic relationship.

I, Dr. D, am back with some updates on what is happening in my preparation for Adepticon. Let’s just say I HAVE BEEN A VERY BUSY BOY. I have feverishly been painting and hobbying as much as I can for all of the categories. I actually managed to impress myself with how much I have been able to finish since then. Let’s start hitting them one by one.

If you have not read the previous article I would suggest that you do so that you know what we are up against! You might be able to find it if you click on this sentence. Man, this internet magic sure is fun!

I shall post my Pile of Potential website to PROVE that I have a paper trail for all of my efforts. They recently didn’t renew the credentials so it might say it is an error, but that won’t stop me! So if you click on it and it tells you that you are in grave danger, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

AMAZING PROGRESS SEEN HERE

It feels so good to see all that green! All that dopamine straight to my brain hole!

So the categories will go as follows.

  • Infinity
  • Marvel Crisis Protocol
  • The Worthy
  • Bushido
  • Helping Jesse (Shatterpoint)

Infinity Plans

The goal is to have my two lists fully painted and ready for the big events. I have created the lists and have assembled the miniatures. I admit that men smarter than I helped me build these lists. And many Bothans didn’t need to die to get me the information. It might be risky, but here are my proposed lists. If you are going to that event please do not bully me! I am very sensitive!

These are the codes for Infinity Army if you would like to take a look.

The group shot of everything that is fully finished so far.
The Unknown Ranger is completed!
I decided to try out something new with the muzzle flash. I think it turned out well.

My personal philosophy with these two lists is one is a beef list and the other is a juice list. What does this mean? Well, my own personal group of friends that play this game with me have been trying to figure that out for years. To me it means that one list is for high aggro and the other list is for more staying power. I hope that with these two lists I can meet the challenges of the scenarios for Adepticon.

One of them also lets me scream who let the dogs out while I sprint across the board. I will count that as a easy win.

The scenarios for the main ITS event at Adepticon are Looting and Sabotage, Supremacy, B Pong, Countermeasures, and Biotechvore. I talked about it on Arachne: An Infinity Podcast, but I absolutely despise B Pong and wish that mission would go away. The rest of the missions I am actually not too upset about. Biotechvore presents a challenge in that USAriadna does not handle BTS saves very well, but since so much of the army list includes models that move well or are in a team for efficiency I think I can make it work. I am going to need to test my skills in this department as much as possible.

Now in regards to getting everything painted. Hectic need will always be the mother of high blood pressure, but I will take every opportunity to do something new if I have the chance. For painting The Unknown Ranger I decided I would try out two things I wanted to improve on. I was trying to make the shield look more NMM with a high contrast paint job with damage on top of it. I went back and watched Sorrastro’s Captain America paintjob to generate some ideas on how to achieve this with the shield. I also tried to paint a muzzle flash since I thought the idea was super cool and I wanted to add my own little twist to the model. I think it all came together pretty well. Obviously, I might be a little biased on how it came out so please tell me what you think in the comments below.

I guess you could also mail what you think to my house too if you are lucky enough to know where that is.

LET’S GO USA! USA! USA! USA!

Marvel Crisis Protocol

The lists that my partner and I will be bringing are planned out. Thankfully, with everything I already have painted I only technically need to paint a single model for both of us to have fully painted teams. We live very far apart so we will not have many chances to practice our teams.

Below is my own team. The only model that needs to be painted is Gwenpool since she is actually crazy good with criminals.

Team Event w/ King Meatball

Threat: 25

Kingpin (4)

Black Cat (3)

Bullseye (2)

Taskmaster (3)

Ulik (5)

Gwenpool (4)

Tactics (5):

All According to Plan

Shadow Organization

Patch Up (R)

Fall Back

They Say Keep Your Enemies Close…

Spider-Infected Invade Manhattan (F, 17)

Sometimes it’s not about the money, Adepticon….its about the METS!

The Worthy

The more I think about all of the things that need to be finished before Adepticon, it is The Worthy that gives me the most hesitation. It is the largest and requires quiet a few models to be painted at a very high level. I have all but given up on actually winning the contest, but I am very interested in at least entering. If I can at least get one person to say WOW then I think it was all worth it.

The display base for the duel. I am actually pretty happy with it.

My thinking is that the duel is happening in some junked up, run down gothic type building that The Hand has set up shop in. Naturally, hornhead and electric nachos don’t like squatters so they are coming to tell them to knock that off.

I will be happy when its all said and done. It just needs some dirt on the base before I can make sure I know where the models will be sitting and then I can prime the whole thing. Thankfully, ruined masonry is pretty easy to get to look good.

Bushido

All of the models I needed to finish for my friend’s Bushido squad are all done and delivered. I admit I enjoyed painting up these fantastic sculpts and my friend is always a peach to work with. I can now say that the Bushido category is all DONE and ready for Adepticon.

The group photo after the varnishing.
It was fun to paint the more earthy yellows for the paint scheme.
This man is disgusting. He can chop anyone in the game up into little bits. Right in front of the kid too.
I kept wondering where she was running off to when I was painting this model. I hope she eventually got there.
He has a very big sword for smooshing.

PUT A BOW ON IT JOHNNY!

Thankfully, I really enjoyed the color scheme that my buddy wanted me to paint. Who doesn’t love a great blue and yellow scheme? Hopefully this army will even be used at Adepticon in some open gaming or if we start goofing off at the Bushido tables late one night.

Helping Jesse

Work on Jesse’s Shatterpoint models continues. Thankfully, a long couple of nights got a very large chunk of the painting done. Captain Rex, the 501st clone troopers, and Obi 2 have joined the ranks of completed miniatures. Now all that remains is Lord Vader, Plo Koon, and the Wolfpack when their box comes out in a few weeks.

We agreed to do a little less obnoxious OSL from the lightsaber.
Took me a little work to get that hair color just right.
The boys and their dad right before they go on their camping trip.
Rex probably needs to clean that armor up when he gets a chance.
Rex looks like he has been rolling around in the desert like a doofus.
I was unexpectedly happy with how Rex came out.

Unless something changes, which I know they will I have a nice set up ending point for this category. Which is exciting. Jesse seems convinced that I could possibly win a best painted in the Shatterpoint area with my paint jobs since he will be using them. That would be pretty fun!

Conclusions

I am feeling ok right now. The progress has been steady and I am not too worried about totally fumbling everything at this point. I look at my Infinity lists and remind myself that it isn’t very many more models and the ones that I need to finish are mostly just humans with normal sized human bodies. Push comes to shove I can always just slap enough paint on them just to make them playable, but I won’t be winning any painting contests.

Finishing models for Jesse isn’t too stressful since I have gotten the lion’s share of them finished and he is working with me to try and reduce the total amount of models that he needs. The biggest issue is going to be The Worthy entry. Painting something like this is actually pretty new to me and it is very big. I just hope that I can get it finished and use it as a learning experience.

I will continue to post my progress as it goes and I hope you guys join me for the ride. Then we can all share an ice cream at Adepticon. Of course you can always find me on EVERY episode of Arachne: An Infinity Podcast where we talk about all kinds of stuff that I hope everyone can enjoy. NOT just Infinity players. If you would like to support the network and ME specifically, please sign up to the Patreon at the Digital Nomad tier since it helps me afford the things I want to review or replace broken stuff that always loves to shows its ugly head.

Keep it popping and talk to you soon!
